Geoffrey E. Thwaites is an independent problem solver and technical visionary with a lifelong commitment to practical systems thinking and physical causality. He logged more than 7390 parabolas, representing more than 39h 30m of weightlessness, equivalent to 26 Earth orbits, and 53 min. and 50 min. at Mars and Moon g levels, during which he participated in several hundred experiments. ESA Astronaut Candidateselected by Belgium, he trained as Payload Specialist at NASA-JSC and participated in three Mars missionsimulations in the Canadian Arctic Circle in 2001 and in the Desert of Utahin 2002 and as Crew Commander in 2009. Monica Politano is a seasoned space-domain professional with thirty years of experience spanning both industry and the European Space Agency (ESA). She is an aerospace engineer with a strong technical foundation, managerial experience, and a focus on innovative, visionary solutions for the future space economy. She currently works within ESA’s Connectivity and Secure Communications Directorate, contributing to the ARTES Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems (ARTES) programme. In her role, Monica leads the Intelligent System Initiative, advancing the critical technologies and building blocks that will underpin future end-to-end autonomous space-to-ground telecommunication systems. She also drives business development activities for key emerging satcom applications, including Data Processing in Space, In-Orbit Servicing, Assembly and Manufacturing, and End-of-Life management, supporting ESA’s broader ambitions in environmental sustainability and circular-economy-oriented space missions. In addition, she coordinates the strategic planning and workplan for satellite platform technologies within ARTES. Previously, Monica spent a decade working across major ESA flight telecommunications projects—such as SAT-AIS, EDRS-C, and HyDRON—overseeing engineering development, AIT campaigns, end-to-end system validation, and operator coordination. My professional experience is academic strongly experimental in the field of optical techniques for investigating fluids. I spent 5 years in the labs of the Prof Giglio and Vailati (Univ. of Milano) dealing with measurements about the mass diffusion of binary mixtures of miscible fluids. First (Master), I designed and developed an instrument to prepare the 'starting' condition for a free diffusion experiment with the two fluids completely separated. Second (PhD) I developed the differential dynamic analysis to get the temporal correlation function out of near field scattering images to measure the dynamics of the non diffusive decay of concentration non equilibrium fluctuations in the presence of gravity. In 2006 I started a PostDoc at the Univ. of Milano-Bicocca for the design of two plasma sources for surface treatment of different materials: an inductive source was used for modifying the surface of PVC films to obtain a semi-conductive surface; a microwave source was used for partial carbonization of a precursor of carbon fibers. Meanwhile I started collaborating with the group of Prof. Mantegazza of the Medicine dept. for developing different algorithms for dynamical measurements with NFS set-ups. The technique was also applied to depolarized measurements of anisotropic particles. In 2009 I moved to Biarritz to perform interferometric measurements on the influence of pressure and porous media on the Soret effect during a 1-year PostDoc. After that I obtained a FP7 Marie Curie IEF Fellowship hosted by Prof. Scheffold (Univ. Fribourg, CH). For that, in 2010 I moved to Fribourg to develop my project DyNeFI for applying the dynamic NFS technique to different fields. In particular I used it to measure the Soret coefficient in ordinary binary mixtures and in critical ones in the vicinity of the critical temperature. In November 2012 I came back to Biarritz with a CNRS Researcher temporary position to pursue my experimental activity.

Hanshen Li received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, an M.S. degree in Computer Science from Waseda University, and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from North China Electric Power University. He is currently a Research Fellow at the China Electric Power Planning & Engineering Institute and also serves as a Youth Growth Mentor for the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League. Prior to 2023, he held the position of Deputy Secretary of the Communist Youth League Working Committee of Yongding Road Subdistrict. Prof. Li serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Energy Science and Technology and is a Young Editorial Board Member of EcoEnergy. He is a member of IEEE, IEEJ, CSEE, and CES. His research interests span power systems, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. To date, he has published over 30 papers, which have received more than 100 citations.

Katja Grünfeld is a Research Assistant and PhD Candidate at the Institute of Air Law, Space Law and Cyber Law at the University of Cologne, responsible for and researching space law under mentorship of Prof. Dr. Stephan Hobe. She began her career with the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court 2019, which her team won at Regional and International Rounds, enabling her the singular honour of appearing before three sitting judges of the International Court of Justice in the World Final. Since then she has coached several Moot Court teams, that have secured prestigous prizes such as Best Oralist award, Best European Memorial and even European Champions. During this time she graduated Summa Cum Laude from a Master in International Law from the University of Ljubljana with visits to Universities in Scotland, Germany and the United States of America. Most recently she accepted the position of Co-Lead for Working Group 1 on the EU COST Action Futures Oriented Governance of Outer Space (FOGOS) after successfully completing her work as Leader of Working Group Space for the Institute’s collaboration project with the German Aerospace Center (DLR) to produce the Cologne Manual on Space Traffic Management, which brought together over 40 international technical and legal experts, including from the DLR, the European Space Agency, the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency as well as the Kenya and Brazilian Space Agencies.

Gülseren Sakarya, PhD St., is a scientist working at the intersection of space health, nanotechnology, advanced materials, and space systems management. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in five different academic disciplines and is currently conducting doctoral research on nanorobots oscillating in microgravity and space program project management. She serves in the central organization of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Türkiye, contributing to national-level health and advanced technology programs. She is the recipient of 29 national and international awards and holds 11 registered patents, with over 90 additional patent applications. Her research interests include space health technologies, advanced material production, artificial organ design, nanotechnology, emotional artificial intelligence, unmanned aerial systems, space equipment, and AI and advanced system engineering. She is an active member and leader of the Mars Research Group within the Mars on Earth Project (MoEP) and the Andromeda Analog Astronaut Team, where she has served as a mentor for 16 universities across 9 countries. She has been a speaker at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2025 in Sydney, Australia.

Berfin Deniz Çabuk is a PhD Candidate in Public International Law at the Department of International and European Law, specializing in Space Law, International Security Law, and International Humanitarian Law. Her doctoral research examines the legal challenges associated with the development and deployment of Anti-Satellite (ASAT) weapons within the frameworks of Space Law, International Law, and International Humanitarian Law. Berfin is a Research Associate in the Planet Stewards Project, a timely interdisciplinary global initiative addressing the sustainability challenges of evolving Earth–Space systems, funded by the European Research Council (ERC) at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Utrecht University. She is also affiliated with the Research Platform on Peace, Security and Human Rights at Utrecht University. In addition, she serves as a legal expert in two working groups of COST Action CA2311—Futures-oriented Governance of Outer Space (FOGOS): Communication & Policy Engagement and Space Futures & Peace. vvvvBerfin graduated as the top student of the Faculty of Law at Kadir Has University in 2021, earning her LL.B. summa cum laude. She holds a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), with a specialization in Design and Construction. Ms. Zapata has distinguished herself through her work in echnological system design, specifically focusing on space debris detection and monitoring.

In January 2025, Cat Burford became the 13th womanto ski 708 miles solo and unsupported to the South Pole, a feat that tested the limits of human endurance, resilience, and psychological performance in one of Earth’s harshest environments. A trained dentist with a special interest in orthodontics, Cat balances clinical work in Cornwall with humanitarian deployments and her role as a faculty member with World Extreme Medicine. Her South Pole success came down to precise navigation, sound risk management, and the solid base of experience she’d built through years of training. Cat’s wider expeditions across the Gobi Desert, Patagonia, Nepal, Chile, Peru, Borneo, and New Zealand have deepened her insight into operating in remote, resource-limited, and environmentally fragile regions. Shohreh Ghasemi (born January 16, 1984) is an Iranian oral surgeon, adjunct assistant professor in the Augusta University OMFS Department, speaker, editor of several books and publications, and human rights activist. Ghasemi has organized conferences and conducted several research on the subject of "facial cosmetic surgery”.She is a director of IFACE Academy from 2022 ,and conducting several symposium s and conferences in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery .She has received recognition from the US state department for her efforts in community colleges and workforce development. Orchidea Maria Lecian graduated in Theoretical Physics at Sapienza University of Rome and ICRA- International Center for Relativistic Astrophysics in 2005 ad completed her International Relativistic Astrophysics Phd at Sapienza University and ICRA. She was post-doctoral Fellow at IHES (Bures-sur-Yvette, France), AEI-MPI (Potsdam-Golm, Germany) and Sapienza University of Rome. She has taken part in intensive research prorammes at AEI-MPI (Potsdam-Golm, Germany) and The Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences (Toronto, Canada). She has been researcher for SAIA- NS'P (The National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic- National S'tipendium Program) as Research grantee and appointed Erasmus Lecturer at Comenius University in Bratislava, Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, Department of Theoretical Physics and Physics Education- KTFDF. She has been Assistant Professor at Sapienza University of Rome and is Professor at Sapienza University of Rome. She is was Visiting Professor at Kursk State University, Chair of Algebra, Geometry and Didactics of Mathematics Theory within the Programme Education in Russia for Foreign Nationals of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation in 2022-2023.
